Jarasandha and Krishna, know the 5 differences between them

Know the 5 differences between Jarasandha and Krishna.
Apart from Mahabharata, Jarasandha is discussed many times in Puranas also. He was the most powerful emperor of Magadha and India. Being Kansa's father-in-law, he helped Kansa in every way. After Lord Krishna killed Kansa, if anyone troubled him the most, it was Jarasandha. Let us know 5 stories of the enmity between Jarasandha and Shri Krishna.

1. After the killing of Kansa, Jarasandha surrounded the city of Mathura from all sides to kill Shri Krishna. Balram and Shri Krishna fought a fierce battle with his huge army and ultimately Jarasandha was defeated. Jarasandha was taken hostage but Shri Krishna stopped Balram from killing Jarasandha and freed him. Shri Krishna did this many times.

2. It is said that Jarasandha attacked Mathura 18 times to kill Shri Krishna. He failed 17 times. In his last foray, he also inspired a powerful foreign ruler, Kalayavan, to attack Mathura. Kalayavan's army surrounded Mathura. He sent a message to the Mathura king and gave him one day's time for the war. Shri Krishna replied that the war should be only between Krishna and Kalayavan, why should the army fight in vain? Kalayavan accepted. Under this policy, when Shri Krishna started running away from the battlefield, Kalayavan also ran after him. While running, Krishna went into a cave. Kalayavan also entered there. In the cave, Kalayavan saw another man sleeping. Thinking him to be Krishna, Kalayavan kicked him hard and the man got up. As soon as he opened his eyes and started looking around, he saw Kalayavan in front of him. Kalayavan was immediately burnt to ashes by his sight. The man whom Kalayavan found sleeping in the cave was King Muchukund, son of Maharaja Mandhata of Ikshvaku dynasty, who was ascetic and majestic.

3. Jarasandha's friend was Shishupala. Shishupala wanted to marry Rukmini. Rukmini's brother Rukmi also wanted the same. Rukmi and Shishupala were friends. Shishupala and Rukmi knew that Rukmi wanted to marry Shri Krishna. But Rukmi had made preparations for Shishupala and Rukmani had made preparations for the Swayamvar. Jarasandha came to Gujarat, so far away from Bihar, just to ensure that there was no disturbance in the Swayamvar. But from there right under his nose, Shri Krishna took Rukmini away. When Jarasandha came to know about this, he ran to take Rukmani. When he tried to capture Krishna in Gomantak, Krishna defeated him and put him to shame, giving him his life. There was nothing worse for a warrior like Jarasandha than a cowherd giving up his life. It was better that he die.

4. Many warriors had participated in Draupadi Swayamvar. Jarasandha was also there in it. Jarasandha thought of a way to get his grandson married to Draupadi. Jarasandha wanted that if he won the competition, he would get his grandson married and if he lost, he would kidnap Draupadi and get her married. Thinking this he reached Swayamvar with his army. Shri Krishna understood this situation.

There was very strict security in Jarasandha's camp. But at midnight Shri Krishna covered his head and reached his camp. When the guards stopped them, they said that if they were not allowed to meet, it would lead to disaster. Everyone will be killed and you will be the culprit. Hearing this, the guard called the chief of guard. The responsibility of guard chief was with a grandson of Jarasandha. When he came he came and asked, 'Who are you?' Then Shri Krishna removed the cloth from his face and said, 'I am Vasudev Krishna.' Jarasandha's grandson was stunned. Krishna was his arch enemy, who was standing in front of him unarmed. Then he asked, 'What do you want?' Krishna said, 'I want to talk to Jarasandha. If you don't wake him up now, just send a message that I'm here to save his life. If I don't meet him now, I won't be able to do anything again. If you still don't want to wake him up, I'll go back. Everything is up to you.'

Hearing this he went to Jarasandha and woke him up. He informed, 'Krishna has come to meet you.' Jarasandha couldn't believe his ears, 'What? He has come to meet me at my camp at midnight? how dare he?' Immediately a thought came to his mind, 'Should we kill him now?' Then his grandson told him what Krishna said to him.

When Krishna came inside, Jarasandha asked, what have you come to talk about? Krishna explained, 'You have come to Draupadi's swayamvara. Everyone knows that marrying Draupadi means having a relationship with Drupada. Relationship with Drupada means relationship with a huge army. That is why so many kings have gathered here. Above all, Drupada is highly respected as a noble person, which can increase your prestige and power. Therefore, the purpose of your coming here is absolutely clear to me. 'Your grandson certainly can't pass the archery test, but you can.' Jarasandha said, 'Absolutely.' I will win.'

Krishna said, 'Imagine. If you, a 75-year-old with so many sons and grandsons, enter into this competition for an 18-year-old girl, you will become a laughing stock. Even if you win this contest, if any young man also wins this contest, you will have to fight him. In this you can be killed because the person who is capable of winning this match can also be capable of killing you. If Duryodhana wins this contest, he can easily kill you. Both of you are in competition with each other, but he is young and you are old and if by chance you lose the competition, your empire will be ruined. No king will want to associate with you further. I am sure you will be intelligent enough not to take such a step.

Krishna continued, 'That's why you have definitely not come here to participate in the competition. You have come here to kidnap that girl. You can do this only in two places. One place is when she will come to the temple with the other princesses. The second place – when she enters the wedding hall. He told, 'My most powerful people are deployed at both these places. If your chariot deviates even slightly from the prescribed path, you will be immediately decapitated. Either way, if you try to execute any of your plans, you are certain to die. It would be best for you to give whatever nice gift you can to Drupada and leave from here with full respect.' Jarasandha got scared after hearing this. Jarasandha understood the matter.

5. If Jarasandha had been in the war of Mahabharata, the course of the war would have been different. But Shri Krishna knew that before the Mahabharata war was about to take place, he had already thought of a plan to kill Jarasandha, one of the great warriors. Actually, Jarasandha could not be killed by any means. Because even after it was broken into two pieces, it would come back alive after joining again. Once Shri Krishna along with Pandavas went to his kingdom to kill him and they made him challenge Bhish in the arena of Jarasandha itself. Jarasandha was very fond of wrestling.

On the instructions of Shri Krishna, Bhima caught hold of his thigh and broke it into two pieces, but when it was joined again, he came back alive. Then on the 14th day, Shri Krishna broke a straw from the middle and threw both its parts in opposite directions. Bhima understood this gesture of Shri Krishna and did the same. He tore Jarasandha in two and threw one tear towards the other tear and the other tear in the direction of the first tear. This is how Jarasandha came to an end, because when thrown in opposite directions the two pieces could not join.
